The "no mountable file systems" error is from the Finder, correct?

I don't know how Fink could cause any interference like that, since it 
interacts with the system area only to a very limited degree.  Also, if 
you created a new account, it most likely isn't even using Fink, unless 
you set it up to do so, so that leads me to believe that the issue is 
probably due to something else you installed.

However, to be thorough, did you install anything with Fink, or do you 
just have a base install?
