You’re going to need to edit your $HOME/.profile (assuming that’s what you’re
using to set your environment) and change “/sw” to “/sw4”, then start a new
Terminal window. That will point you to a Fink tree which isn’t broken.
By the way, using a Fink tree other than /sw cuts you off from being able to
use the binary distribution, so before you build a bunch of stuff you might
want to consider removing your broken /sw and then doing another install in /sw.
