Passing this along for what it is worth.

Tried to install PGPLOT via Fink. Exits with this message:

fink install pgplot

So this appears to be an X11 problem. I had just recently updated to OS X
10.10. PGPLOT previously ran fine under 10.9, so I downloaded the xquartz
installer and ran it. The PGPLOT installation then worked as expected.

Conclusion: upgrading from 10.9 to 10.10 messed up X11-dev, which was fixed by
reinstalling Xquartz.

Passing this along in case someone else runs into a similar issue.
