Even if that was so (and I heared quite the opposite, namely that darwin was (and is) going to use more and more of the debian tools), how does that at all relate to Fink? Not at all, IMHO. Only because more and more people are driving a Mercdes, do I have to get one? Why can't I keep my BMW? :) Finally, it's not as if one could exchange RPMs between Mandrake, RedHat and SuSE, for example. Sometimes you can, but in a majority of cases, you can't. >As such, if a move is made, a move to RPM would likely push the >project in a direction more inline with the future of the platform. Nah, I disagree. Look, we are Fink. We do our stuff, others do their stuff. It's not as if you could use Fink packages from inside OpenPKG or vice versa. Even if both would use RPM or both would use dpkg, it's not necessarily the case that you could use the packages of the one under the other. OpenPKG <http://www.openpkg.org> certainly sounds interesting, BTW. Are they working on an OS X port? >Whether or not that is truly beneficial? I have no idea. I don't see it as beneficial. So far nobody mentioned anything that would make it beneficial, either. I can only mention a big drawback, basically the fact that we would have to rewrite Fink. Anybody who wants RPM, well, maybe you should look into helping porting OpenPKG? But you waste your time to try to convince me to switch to RPM. It's pointless. It's as if you would go to Debian and tell them to switch to RPM.
