I wanted to install lyx but didn't get too far [more after dumps etc]:

and here I have no knowledge of what Makefiles look like so I give up.
xdvi download fails because 22.48 is no longer available. I changed "48" to "49" - the
next [but not latest] available version in the .info and .patch but didn't get far
enough to check the compile/patch.
the package list / mailing list archive protect maintainers email addresses so if the
maintainer wants to email me then I'll help out wherever I can.
And anyway it'd be nice to have lyx available so pointers as to what to do are
appreciated
