What do you get when you do dpkg -c /sw/fink/debs/xfree86-rootless_4.2.0-2_darwin-powerpc.deb That is, does it contains the full XDarwin.app list of files? If no, then your package build is for some reasons messed up. If OTOH all the files are in there (and you have installed xfree86-rootless), then I'd check out your /Applications/XDarwin.app dir - maybe it is write protected or something like that. "rm -rf /Applications/XDarwin.app" it and then "fink reinstall xfree86-rootless" would help in that case.
