Dlcompat is a open source (BSD license), available in source, and 
works well on mac OS X. It's not preinstalled, but neither is the 
code Andrew posted links to here. But Fink's (new) dlcompat seems to 
be more feature rich, at least AFAICS, e.g. it allows to dlopen 
shared libs.
