So in any case, Fink shouldn't print out such warnings but handle 
this gracefully. I guess it's one of the two calls, stat or lstat, 
which causes the problem/output. Not sure how to best avoid this 
warning message, anybody got a better idea? If not I will take a look 
at it later.

Two other things that I plan to change there:
* rebuilt cache if fink.conf was changed (hm or maybe we can detect 
if the list of trees changed only somehow, but that can come later)

* detect if files are removed. Right now, the index won't be rebuilt 
if you *remove* .info files. To do that, we have to check the 
modification dates of the directories, too.
