Sure, the question is: is it a good idea to start localization right 
now? Localization usually should be done when a project is in a 
fairly stable state, or you end up spending far to much time trying 
in vain to keep you localizations up to date. Plus considering that 
for most Unix work and for a majority of Fink packages, you have to 
be able to speak english anyway. Note that I don't want to imply with 
this that I think localization is useless, far to the contrary I 
strongly believe in l10n and i18n, but it's still a matter of 
priority and spent resources.

Conclusion: if anybody wants to go for it, do it, you have my 
support, however I would recommend you first discuss what tools you 
want to use here and plan it out - localization has to be done right 
or it ends up a nightmare in maintenance.
