I guess this confuses me a bit....

Since the OSX box already has a version of perl that
comes with it, then there is a canonical version of perl
that is available that would allow one to know where it
is putting

        site_local

modules - hence why not install them there? rather than into
an additional library that would require setting an environmental variable?

Or the alternative - rebuild perl to have that added to the @INC
so that perl knows it by 'default'????
