Ben,

I'd say that very much depends on how you define "best bet". For some 
people (like me) it is the best way, especially since I am using Fink 
anyway. For others it might not be the best way. Tell us a bit more 
about your needs then we can give you advice.

BTW this mailing list is not really appropriate for such questions, 
you are better off on fink-users - this list is primarily concerned 
with the development of Fink.
