The xemacs-21.5.9-1 package is still broken [been so for 6 weeks or so]

for quite a while.
I did some tests last week, had some discussions on the xemacs-beta list, too. I am sorry I didn't have the time to make a nice bug report-cum-patch proposal yet. Here is what I found:

The true reason for the bug is still unknown. It appears for some persons, with varying symptoms, and not for others. For all we know, it may depend on the color of the computer ;-)

There are, however, ways to make the bug disappear, at least for me. The following two possibilities work for me:

Either:
remove the configure option "--error-checking=none"
or:
leave this option as it is and add a line

SetCFLAGS: -O3 -fno-strict-aliasing

in the info file.

With both methods, I was able to compile xemacs-21.5.9-1. The resulting xemacs works, it only emits a warning when started:

_XF86BigfontQueryFont: could not attach shm segment

I don't know if this tells anything to anyone.
