Jaguar is using gcc 3.1, does anyone know if that version of gcc supportsNo, although I want to know why Apple GCC doesn't just specify "-mcpu=750 -mmultiple -mpowerpc-gfxopt" by default; any computer running OSX can handle it.
AltiVec specific optimizations? If so, are Fink packages built for these
G4-only extensions? The reason why I'm asking is because I've been playing
with Gentoo Linux (gentoo.org), which uses a system somewhat similar to Fink
to build and install binaries built locally from source. One of the features
I've found pretty slick is tha they have an /etc/make.conf file which allows
you to specify certain C/C++ flags for _every_ package that compiles on your
particular system. Does Fink have something similar? If not, could it? I'd
love to be able to build packages that are optimized for my system.
Thanks!
"-faltivec" doesn't actually automatically AltiVec-ize code, however. It just turns on support for it.
