Besides being nearly useless on single-processor systems, this can
*break* some makefiles in untestable and unrepeatedable ways.

I recall when we added such a flag to make at Sequent, since we had
transparent multiprocessing.  I started blindly trying it on random
Makefiles.  Many broke.  Sometimes randomly.  The "random" part is the
hard part... *you* may get a good build, but it might break for *me*.
Bad.

Best to be conservative, if slower.
