Hello everybody,

I have a little problem with the package I maintain, Postfix.

I am creating two new packages (actually, Steven M. Bytnar created the packages and I'm upgrading them), postfix-sasl and postfix-sasl-tls. The problem is that I currently have two packages: postfix and postfix-release. I would like to drop postfix-release, and make postfix (which currently tracks some snapshots) track releases.

So, I see the following issues:
- - For historical reasons, postfix is versioned with a number like 20021219. postfix-release is versioned 1.1.12. I would prefer to drop the date versioning scheme and use the M.m.b scheme for clarity (How is anyone going to know that postfix-20021224 is actually what everyone else calls Postfix 1.2?).
- - I would like users with postfix-release installed to be able to just run fink update-all and get transfered to postfix.

Oh, how I wish I'd gone with just one postfix package in the first place!

Are these possible to resolve?

I could probably update 6 packages (postfix(-release)?(-sasl(-tls)?)?), but I would rather not.

I would combine the -sasl and -sasl-tls packages but I am concerned that people who want authenticated smtp, but can't use cryptographic software would have problems.

Also, the name -sasl does not seem obvious. Maybe -auth would be better? TLS is really SSL 3.1 or something like that; should I use -ssl instead of -tls?

Suggestions would be very appreciated, please CC me so I don't miss them.

Daniel
