Dear Fink developers,

A new version of gnu libtool was released about two months ago. (I
discovered this when the latest version of gnumeric, which uses it, came
out.) I've put a preliminary version of a libtool14-1.4.3-1 package
into experimental/dmrrsn until Max has a chance to look at this.

Several of the changes which the Fink project is aware of have been made
in this version, including vasi's fix for the convenience library bug,
a fix for the -install_name bug, and some changes to archive_cmds related
to getting zsh escapes to work properly.

There is also a change which hasn't been part of Fink: the addition of
a -bind-at-load flag.

The archive_cmds changes are somewhat different than what we have been
using in Fink patches, so I'm not sure if the "bash versioning bug"
will affect libtool-1.4.3 or not. Perhaps someone can test one of the
packages which had been affected by that bug.

I attach below the ChangeLog entries which document these changes.

  Best,
  Dave

The following items from the ChangeLog are relevant:

2002-10-11 Christoph Egger <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

        * libtool.m4 (darwin): Add -install_name to the link line only
when -dynamiclib is specified for a module.
        * ltmain.in (darwin): Use -bind_at_load when linking shared
        libraries.

2002-05-02 Dave Vasilevsky <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

        * ltmain.in: Remove convenience libraries from deplibs for Darwin.

2001-09-21 Gary V. Vaughan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

        From Tor Lillqvist <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
        * ltmain.in [cygwin* mingw*]: Take care of the difference between
wrapper script name and executable name.

        * libtool.m4 (archive_cmds) [darwin1.[0-2]]: Darwin uses zsh-3.1.6
for /bin/sh, and that shell does not handle escaped quotes
        properly yet.
