Is it on UFS? UFS is very prone to this kind of disk corruption. Try rebooting in single user mode and
thoroughly fscking your disks. That may help a little, but you probably need to reinstall those packages.

it is and was HFS+

it had strange plist entries and unicode chars in it. I am rather concerned. A reinstall did fix it though.
