So do you know for sure this is a bug in gas; or isn't it possible that they changed the syntax? Or some other parts of the assembler.
No, I only know that
1. the atlas package does compile with the dec2002 dev tools and it doesn't with the June 2003 update of these tools, and
2. if I replace the June 2003 as in /usr/libex/... by the one from Dec2002, the problem goes away, everything else being equal. The status of gcc_select (3.1 or 3.3) and the version of g77 (3.1 or 3.3) do not matter.
Whose fault this is I hope to learn from Apple's reaction. So far I only had one from Andrew Pinski on the darwin-development list who mumbled something about wrong assembler code being generated. So it may be possible that this is a story of an old bug that had been tolerated until now and isn't any more, but seen from the user's perspective, this is the same thing as a newly introduced bug. The jury is still out.
If this is *only* one file in the atlas/lapack package, one can probably work around by patching this file, but since this is such an innocent file, I suspect the problem should pop up in other fortran programs as well.
That *does* make a difference in how we handle it...
Yes, I understand, but I cannot give any advice.
