Hi I can't post to the list so please post for everyone.
I had this problem a while back. I rebuilt all of the Gnome base packages with no real change.
Then on a wild hunch I changed from Thousands of Colors to Millions of Colors and it was gone.
I thought at first it was some foreign language i18 thing. But it seems to be some kind of menu ghosting problem.
