This has been on my to-do list for a while.

Recent versions of texinfo require recent versions of gettext.  Since the
newest gettext has a binary compatibility change from fink's gettext,
we need a gettext2 package in order to update texinfo.  The work I did
this summer to "splitoffize" gettext was done with this goal in mind.
Once the transition to 10.3 is more complete, I'll return to this project.

I think an important point that should be mentioned is that Fink's texinfo contains the makeindex program. Without this, there would not be any justification for keeping an additional texinfo package in Fink, at least not one other packages need to depend on.


If Apple would not cripple basically every open source package that they put into OSX, Fink could get away with a lot less packages, and this would make it more attractive.
