In that one I give some wrong information. I didn't know at the time that
XDarwin wasn't working. This isn't the only example on Apple's list. A
number of people have installed X11 with Panther without removing XFree86.
However, it's the intentional ones that concern me.

    On the other hand, in the MacOSXHints example, XDarwin (and I gather
XFree86) was the last thing installed and it does run on Panther so maybe
there's some clues that would help with XFree86 and Panther. When XFree86 is
last installed, it must not step on the part of Apple's X11 that gets the
keyboard layout from Panther's new /System/Library/Keyboard Layouts files.
