This problem seems to come from a bug in fink 0.17.0. Judging from the commit log messages it is now fixed in cvs. But, as far as i know, no bug fix is released yet. I will inform you as soon as i get more news. Sorry about that...

What version of svn-ssl does show up in fink? It need to be 0.33.0-12. If it is still -11, the bug is not fixed.
Try fink selfupdate again. If that doesn't help, there is something wrong with the updading mechanism.
