I never heard of --version-number...I'll research it, but my little (x+y):z:y works better then -release for now, all of gnome 2.4, gnome1 and a few other libs are still using -release just as and FYI

I think that is a *very* bad idea what you are doing, Justin. It is quite likely to cause us pain in the future. If your only justification is "ugly filenames", then I ask you to stop doing it. It's a hack based on incomplete understanding of the issue, by what I hear from you. You are changing the filenames and the compat version info in the .dylib in a semi-arbitrary fashion. Not good.
