I think it was a bad idea to advise people to use the gnome-core mailing list as a write-only list. This would work only under the condition that Keith is sitting there and answering all messages (which he obviously can't, even supposing he knew all the answers ;-) ) Otherwise people are all writing the same stuff over and over again.

There are archives, after all, at http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=36264

I think one should have asked that people look at the archives first before writing there. Plus ask them to look at the archives of fink-users and fink-beginners.

The time is too short yet for a FAQ, but in the past 2 days I have been advising between 2 and 5 times on each of the following problems, on various fink lists. I have no more time for this now, so I'll just leave a terse list. The details are in the archives.

Also, lots of packages had had missing (build) dependencies; most have been fixed by now, so people should be told to selfupdate.

Another Q&A that may come up in the next couple of days might be:
Q: I can't install gtkspell2/gal1.99
A: Remove gtkspell/gal (those packages have been renamed)
This will only affect people who installed gnome 2.4 in the brief time period between when it was put into CVS and when those package were renamed.

Cheers,

Max
