it just came to our attention that the direct download URLs for project Fink (hosted at SF.net) have been changed. They used to be of the form:
http://us.dl.sourceforge.net/fink/direct_download
but now an extra "sourceforge" is inserted:
http://us.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/fink/direct_download
This is extremely unfortunate (especially since we got no advance warning). As it breaks the "sources.list" mirror URLs for several thousands (ten thousands?) of Fink users. As you may know, we are using the debian tools, including apt-get, as part of our software infrastructure. It relies on URLs for the archives with binary packages to be listed in the "sources.list" file. These URLs are used by the "apt-get" tool, e.g. when you install binary packages, and also when you upgrade to a new major release of Fink.
We were just about to release a new major release of our binary distribution. This is now not anymore possible, without telling users to manually edit their "sources.list" file; which is a rather painful and awkward solution.
Hence I dearly hope that you can undo this change, at least temporarily, for the Fink direct download URLs. We should at least have a chance to deploy the new binary distributions to a large percentage of our users.
This will give us some breathing space, to implement a solution which makes us independent of SF.net changes in the future: we will look into modifying the "sources.list" files to point at an URL of our own choice and under our own control. This then can forward to the SF.net download URL, and can be updated in the future if you have to make other URL changes. And if we ever get our own servers/mirrors, we can switch all our users to them transparently, too.
