Dear academic staff and large scale implementors of Fink.
I think that Fink could have a great feature in the academic field. having visited a little HPC Apple conference here in Austria recently I have learned that there is an ever increasing interest in Clusters supplied by Apple using their XServes.
I would like to understand what issues you and other academic institutes might have when trying to deploy software across such large scale installations. I would like to understand whether there are functions, functionalities or features we could supply with Fink to make this easier and thus make Fink more usable to such projects.
I will be honest. Academic Institutes (at least in Europe) usually have no money but an immense amount of work force that they can contribute to something. Having seen how well the University of Tokyo works with Fink and how many packages they have already contributed I would like to see more input from academic institutions. This could go down as low as the K12 level in the United States.
To make this happen we have to make Fink as best suited and easy to use for your specific needs. Unfortunately that is something I have little experience in. I would be very interested din learning what the typical issues are and how we might be able to remedy them. This is of course only something that can be suggested but still I think it is worth a try, -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (Darwin)
