I'm not sure why that would be happening. After you answer no, do you have 'Flags: SpotlightWarning' in your fink.conf?

In addition, this breaks the simplests scripts; eg:

#!/sw/bin/bash
ls=`fink dumpinfo -f family $1`
echo $ls

Ok, the postinstall now does the warning, that should get it out of the way earlier for some users.

the previous symlink /sw/bld -> /classic/bld is unchanged, as well as its target,
and a new directory /sw/bld.build has been created...

That's the intended behavior, we create a new directory. We can't know what else people might be using the same directory for, so moving things seems heavy-handed. What would you like to see happen instead?
