Hi Alexander,

I just updated to CVS 1.12.12. I can't do anything anymore.
Specifically, I get this when running "cvs up" in a Fink dir:

Caladan-II:/sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/x11-wm maxhorn$ cvs up
cvs [update aborted]: memory exhausted
Caladan-II:/sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/x11-wm maxhorn$ DSA
host key for IP address '66.35.250.207' not in list of known hosts.

(the DSA etc. part of the message is printed a second after cvs
exits, probably by the SSH subprocess it started). Note that this is
a developer (SF.net) checkout. CVS_RSH=ssh is set. I have the openssh
package version 4.0p1-1 installed.

Hope this can be resolved, I'll have to downgrade for now :-/

ccing -devel for insight and additional CPUs

I had the same problem on the second (Tiger) and third (Panther)
computers that I tried it on (obviously not the first)--but got them
to work too by rebuilding the package (oddly enough, 2 rebuilds were
needed on the Panther box). All of my boxes use Fink's openssh-4.0p1
as well.

I don't have a good explanation right now as to the cause--I'm trying
rebuilds to see if I can reproduce the failure but haven't "succeeded
in failing", so to speak.

I have the log for a build where the executable worked correctly
captured already:

http://ldx3.psfc.mit.edu/~hansen/cvs-1.12.12-1-successful.log

If you or anybody on -devel has a build log for the case where the
executable fails, I guess we could start by comparing these.

*Sigh*
A) It worked without doing SSH operations, so I committed it on that basis.

B) My "rebuild" explanation was bogus--I now recall that I
_downgraded_ first before I rebuilt, and the downgraded versions were
those that were installed and actually worked.

C) I'll put the old version back and keep looking at 1.12.x -- regard
the log that I posted as something to be looked at to try to ascertain
why the damn thing failed with SSH rather than as a success story. I'm changing the source URL (so that it actually works now) but I'm
leaving the revision intact as the package will be the same in terms
of building and running, unless people think that I need to up the
Epoch and consequently the revision.

Update:

I added 1.12.11, being careful to do vetting with _this_ version this time ;-) .

It runs with SSH without exhausting memory and all of the other badness, and also runs correctly via pserver (including anonymous)--which was the motivation for upgrading the package in the distro in the first place.

I also put 1.11.20 back in case of problems, to facilitate downgrades in the event that something else bad happens.
