I just did a fink install gettext-tools, that upgraded that pkg then a selfupdate worked fine, so the gettext-tools in stable is broken somewhat.

The following errors remain:

To fix manually, run:
sudo apt-get install gettext-dev=0.10.40-24 gettext=0.10.40-24

Hmm, why is there no gettext-tools 0.10.40-19? There should either be one, or if it's no longer necessary then gettext should Conflict/Replace it. Can somebody look into this?

I will look into it. At first glance, though, the problem is that the old gettext-tools package insisted on a precise version of gettext rather than allowing either that version of a later version. This was clearly an error (quite possibly commited by me!) but fixing it will require some thought.
