So what needs to get done before we can start a 10.4 (gcc4) tree, as the rumors that x86 will be out in Jan and it will REQUIRE gcc4 only. I'm willing to help where I can to help speed this up.

We were waiting for XCode 2.2 before starting the 10.4 tree, since some major things like KDE needed gcc 4.0.1 in order to compile.

But now the problem is: XCode 2.2 is out and it caused a fair number of other problems. Right now, I am working on building 10.4- transitional/unstable with XCode 2.2 and fixing whatever I can. Somebody also needs to make packages for things like KDE which will work with g++-4.0.1. Then we will be ready to try a 10.4 tree.

There is one other issue, though, which is how we handle the upgrade to the 10.4 tree. We've discussed this a few times without ever reaching a conclusion.
