--i do not have Growl installed right now, buy i might have had in the past, just to try it, and uninstalled it right after, with the growl uninstall script.

You never said whether you followed the advice everybody has been giving
you and ran
sudo apt-get update
You also don't say whether you have Growl installed or not. If you have
it installed, rebooting might help.
