I resume here private mails which raise a problem I've never seen before.

I have been using glade2 via Fink (on OSX) without experiencing
problems. Recently I wanted to run it again and to my surprise the
glade2 package has disappeared from my standard /sw/bin directory.
However, in FinkExplorer it still showed up as installed
(source&binary both 2.10.1-1). Neither locate nor spotlight could
find the glade executable...

I've now removed the package (via FinkExplorer) and installed it
again -- with same results: the executable is still missing though
the /sw/share/doc shows a directory called glade2 which has been
modified today.

This seems very strange. has anyting like this been reported? Would
you like any more information? (if yes, what?) Could it be due to
using the unstable branch of Fink?

I've never heard of such a thing. I'm reinstalling it again, it could
take a while since I'm compiling from source. When finished, I'll
tell you if I get the same behaviour as you did.

thank you.

Anyway, could it be that you call glade2 instead of glade-2?

no. I searched for glade (ie. glade*) and use tab completion. At the CLI

moamacPB:~ moaltmann$ echo $PATH
/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/sw/bin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin
moamacPB:~ moaltmann$ gl<tab>
glib-config glib-gettextize glibtool glxgears
glib-genmarshal glib-mkenums glibtoolize glxinfo

regards,
  Mischa

ps. i'm removing both source & binary and then installing from source overnight...

regards & thank you for your efforts,
  mischa

Dear Michèle,

I've somehow managed to solve my problem:

after deleting the source, fetching it, and then building it i received the following notice:
...
The following package will be rebuilt:
 glade2
The following additional package will be installed:
 libgettext3-d
...

that is very strange as no package should have uninstalled itself without me knowing. anyway - after installing libgettext3-d & glade2 from source everything works as it should.

what i dont understand is that if libgettext3-d was missing why did the .deb of glade2 install without raising an error?

It should be libgettext3-dev.

That is normal, since some packages require the old version gettext- dev, others the newer version libgettext3-dev. This is handled automatically while reading build-conflicts as the beginning of the compilation process. So that you may not notice it.

I'll forward to devel, since probably it is related to the way gettext switch is handled.

Cheers,
Michèle
