Unless somethign dramatic changed while I wasn't watching (which is easily possible, considering I wasn't paying that much attention lately), you don't want files to only live in the mirror systems. Instead, one hosts the custom made tarball somewhere else (as Dave suggested). In particular, take a look at <http://sourceforge.net/ project/showfiles.php?group_id=17203>, the "miscellaneous" section to be specific: There we are already hosting various tar balls in three subsections: "mirror", "repackaged", and "snapshots". In your case, we could host your custom made pymol tarball under "snapshots". > Also, I think we should add a DescPackaging > line that clearly states we are creating a tarball for > the fink packaging in accordance with the BSD license > of pymol from the proper svn branch for that release. It won't hurt to add that notice, although it is not necessary. > Lastly, I wonder if we can't give Warren a little help > with his concerns by perhaps adding a postinstall > message that states we encourage fink users to support > the pymol project either through code donations or > purchased support. After all most other open source projects would be happy about financial and other support, too. While I am sure Warren is doing a great job there, and deserves recognition and support etc. -- why does he deserve so more than other open source authors/projects/ teams? In the end, *he* chose to publish his code as open sourcem under a certain license, and thus is granting us and everybody else certain rights to use it. Something which is appreciated by many people. But: We don't have to apologize for making use of that offer. If he is uncomfortable with his code being open source now, and with other people using his code for free; and if he decides he can't afford to do this anymore, and thus pulls future versions of pymol from the opensource scene; then of course I am very sorry to hear that. But we will have to accept it and move on. Behaving differently in my eyes would violate the spirit of open source. Just my two cents!
