I finally found some time to try the latest (unstable) gcc42 package  
to build the CERNLIB (consisting of ~1.5M lines of fortran code). It  
works perfectly both on ppc and i386.

I also tried to build gcc42 on my test machine which has only the  
stable tree enabled and everything seems to be fine. Thus, if there  
are no objections by Monday, I will go ahead and add the gcc42  
package to 10.4/stable tree.

Thanks a lot for the hard work getting gcc42/gfortran to fink (and  
Mac OS X).
