Perl 5.8.6 was never a Fink package for 10.4, because that's the version 
that comes with the operating system, and should therefore be handled by 
the system-perl586 virtual package.  Did you overwrite the system's Perl 
stuff, or do you mean you have Perl 5.8.8 through Fink?

It will be helpful for you to paste a literal transcript of your error 
output into a message.
