I think at one point fink had a newer version, and newer is always
improved, according to the ad industry in the US. Since I once installed
it, it automatically updates, and I have the same >10GB /sw on all my
computers (of which I have also lost count).

But since they are the same version now, the only "benefit" you get is an
/sw/etc/screenrc file with some defaults in it that I don't understand and
didn't even know existed 24 hours ago. I'm quite happy to use the apple
version; I just was reporting a (minor) bug.

Why, for that matter, does fink force us to have a non-HFS friendly tar at
the head of the path, thus changing default system behavior (unless you
alias tar=/usr/bin/tar to recover default behavior at the interactive
level)?
