We already have the provision to do this, through the GCC: field, so in theory we should be in good shape. (I presume the ABI changed again between apple's 4.0 and 4.2?) C++ code in Fink will already be using the GCC: 4.0 field, so there will be no ABI conflict issues. If individual packages can move to 4.2 without messing up packages which depend on them, they can say so.
