Wouldn't it be a better idea to have the x86_64 architecture
on Leopard default to gcc-4.2 and g++-4.2 rather than gcc-4.0
and g++-4.0? I suspect the 64-bit code generation in the 4.2
compilers should be much improved over the 4.0 compilers and it
would simplify the assumptions that have to be made when patching
code for x86_64.
