Hello, all. Just a heads up on the status of our servers.

Finch, the machine that hosted our Web site, DNS servers, Subversion
repository, finkproject.org e-mail server, our wiki, and pinson-the-
forgetful-bot, went down because of disk failure and it's not coming
back. We already have a replacement running and we are waiting for
Ben, who set up our distributed, Bacula-powered backup system, to
return and restore the backup from the backup machine that is
administered by our host. We also have a filesystem backup copy from
early September. If everything goes well, there shouldn't be any data
or service loss. We're considering our worst case scenario to be
restoring the filesystem backup copy from early September.

From a user perspective the situation should have normalised by now:
PDB and www.finkproject.org are running on the new machine,
finkmirrors.net name servers are working so rsync selfupdate,
distfiles (source files) and bindist (official binaries) mirror names
are being properly resolved unless the DNS servers being used by some
users haven't updated yet. Many thanks to Andreas Gockel for his
invaluable help with these services.

 From a maintainer perspective:

* Peter O'Gorman published a clone of our wiki at http://pogma.org/wiki
* Subversion is down. We hope it being down for a week or so won't be
much of a problem. Subversion users might want to use our CVS
experimental tree if need be.
* finkproject.org e-mail postboxes are down, which means users can't
access their existing e-mails, send e-mails, or receive e-mails. You
might want to edit your e-mail address on your package descriptions.
If we are able to set up forward-only e-mail aliases, we'll let you
know.

We intend to resume these services not long after Ben is back, which
should be Nov 3rd.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience and support,
folks.

Cheers,

-- monipol
