Hi there,

gettext-tools was updated, so I wanted to rebuild it, and stumbled (as
with libgettext recently) over
    BuildConflicts: ccache-default, distcc-default

Is this really still necessary? My hope is that it can be removed
without a trace, just as with libgettext. It built just fine for me
without the BC. My only concern for this (and libgettext) is whether
those lines might be important for bootstrapping or upgrades from
older systems ?

Unfortunately, once again there is no explanation in .info file as to
why the BC was added. Once again, it was Ben (RangerRick) who added
this 2007/03/14 with commit message "gettext is ccache/distcc-
unfriendly". :-)

At this point, I really would like to urge everybody to document
things like (build)conflicts and patches (why is a patch necessary?
what is it doing) in the DescPackaging / DescPort fields of
their .info file -- it can be invaluable for future maintainers
(including yourself -- it can be surprisingly difficult for yourself
to figure out why you did something a couple months later ;).
(Note: I don't claim to be great in documenting my packages either,
but I am trying to improve).

Cheers,
Max
