You should take a look at what Debian unstable
currently does. A glance at their packaging shows
that only the default system compiler has the
info files under their original names (in
gcc-4.3-doc) and that the other versions of
gcc have the -4.x suffix added in their gcc-4.x-doc
packages. They also seem to be bundling together their
own gcc-4.x doc tarballs and crafting their own
Makefiles.
If we had the resources that Debian has, it
would be one thing, but there are rational limits
to what we can achieve here considering that the
fink developer pool seems to be shrinking.
