Hi there, many packages bdep on libgettext3-dev or libgettext8-dev, but also on in addition on gettext-bin and/or gettext-tools. I wonder if this is really necessary; libgettext?-dev seems to depend on gettext-bin anyway. And it doesn't seem as if packages really (build)depend on gettext-tools; at least in some experiments, removing it didn't seem to have any effect when building certain of my packages.
Any advice on this? "fink info" is not very helpful, either, as it just say "GNU Internationalization utils (shared libs)" (for -tools -- where does that "shared libs" come from??) and "GNU Internationalization utils". (I pointed this out on fink-core on Dec 17, 2009, but got no replies). I am sure more people wonder about how to use resp. (b)dep on gettext correctly (or don't wonder and just copy & paste it from elsewhere), and I have asked stupid questions on this subject in the past. Would be nice to have a mini-guide / HOWTO about this subject on the Wiki, too :).
