It is installed, from fink list --installed:

i   xml-parser-pm588       2.36-2           Perl ext interface to XML  
parser/expat

and from dpkg -l

ri  xml-parser-pm588      2.36-2                Perl ext interface to  
XML parser/expat


In the end I was able to remove it one package at the time:

$ fink remove intltool40
$ fink remove xml-parser-pm588
