Firefox/gtk2 after the 3.6.x series won't build on OS X w/out disabling major functionality unless the system has xquartz 2.5.0 (at least on 10.5, I don't know what the situation is on 10.6). This is an issue with the old GL headers, which jeremyhu updated in 2.5.0. There is no word as to whether Apple will backport this fix into future releases of the system X11.
Given that Fink policy right now is to use the system's X11, what can be done about this situation, assuming Apple doesn't update X11?
