I'm not exactly sure how you would propose discouraging that.  Simply
putting it in the docs won't have any big effect.  Especially since we
_encouraged_ people to install XQuartz back at the beginning of Leopard.

Presumably fink could pop up a warning message when it finds a new
enough Xquartz, but I don't think anybody's going to read that unless it
actually _stops_ the operation and requires user input for builds to
proceed.  In that case we could also check for stuff in /usr/local,
/opt/local, and other known problematic locations.
