OK, that indicates that Fink's compiler wrapper scripts are at the head
of the PATH, as they should be.

The next question would whether a non-Apple compiler is in place in
/usr/bin.

What do you get from "/usr/bin/cc -version"?  I get:

$ /usr/bin/cc --version
i686-apple-darwin10-gcc-4.2.1 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5666) (dot 3)
