I actually couldn't figure out the libtool version. I typed
libtool --version, and that just creates an error, so I thought is was
significantly older than 2.2.4.

So maybe that's the problem: there is a /usr/bin/libtool AND /usr/bin/glibtool
And I think all these scripts will use /usr/bin/libtool, not /usr/bin/glibtool,
thus we are installing all these other fink packages to work around that again,
instead of simply forcing glibtool. But I may be speculating here.

I also tried several combinations of fink libtool and autoconf packages (I had
not started with automake yet). So thanks for leading me to the right combo. It
did finish compiling this time.

I AM on 10.6.7.
