The whole install log should be helpful to investigate
the error. Please do:

$ script -q texlive-base.inst fink reinstall texlive-base
$ gzip texlive-base.inst

and send texlive-base.inst.gz to us.

Furthermore

/sw/var/lib/texmf/web2c/metapost/mpost.log
/sw/var/lib/texmf/web2c/metapost/metafun.log

may be helpful. Please let us see the logs.
