I believe that's a coincidence.

fink relies on the system to handle all of the symlinks, include paths, 
... correctly; though it does install compiler wrapper scripts.  If you 
were on 0.36.4.1 and moved to 0.37.0, nothing changed with regard to 
those, other than that they were moved to the control of the direct 
control of the fink package instead of being autogenerated.

It might be worth seeing what the PATH is, though.  What do you get from 
"fink dumpinfo -ePATH python27"?
