Hey, folks. As you’ve probably noticed, CVS is misbehaving again. It’s probably timely to make another push to try move the package descriptions over to git. The following items apply to the discussion:
1) Trying to implement a bunch of changes to the existing setup is guaranteed to make this not happen, so for now, let’s use a single branch, with _exactly_ the same directory structure (apart from CVS metadata) as our current setup. I don’t care that people don’t like 10.4/10.4-EOL and the like, or the lack of symlinks in the repository. Once we have a live setup that works, we can think about how to handle changing stuff around to be prettier. 2) The use of another VCS isn’t off the table, since the selfupdate code is modular. However, if it doesn’t have a repository which supports downloads through an HTTP proxy then it’s a low priority. 3) After the switchover, I propose that we make all changes to the distribution via pull requests on Github. I don’t happen to recall whether the selfupdate-git code in the development branch of that name treats the local checkout as a fork to make this easy to do in place. I just merged the current master into the selfupdate-git branch in the hopes that we’ll be able to do something. -- Alexander Hansen, Ph.D. Fink User Liaison ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dive into the World of Parallel Programming.
